Which bulb will glow brighter 40 W or 100 W when connected in series..???

Q: Two bulbs of 100w and 40w respectively connected in series across a 230v supply which bulb will glow bright and why?

Answer :  

Here two bulbs are connected in series so same current will flow through each bulb also supply voltage is constant across the each bulb hence we can calculate resistance of each bulb using formula P=V^2/R.

Here the resistance offered by 40W bulb is greater than the 100 W bulb hence voltage drop across 40W is more (V=IR) so 40W bulb will glow brighter than the 100 W bulb.
